Its main point of departure from regular Legacy sedans is its big hood scoop, which feeds the turbocharged boxer engine. The 2.5-liter makes a healthy 265 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque, both increases over the previous version. Subaru claims that the car can do 0-to-60 mph in under 6 seconds

Riding on a new platform, the 2010 Outback is 2.8 inches longer in wheelbase and two inches broader in the shoulders than the outgoing wagon, but its front and rear overhangs have been clipped two inches each for improved approach and departure angles

Subaru’s new 2010 Legacy is a superb car with strong straight-line performance and agile handling, but the rally-bred Japanese brand knows that certain customers, especially those honed on its wonderful WRX series of cars but needing to move up a segment size to accommodate their growing families, want a little more performance to go along with that requirement for practicality.

To that end, the Legacy 2.5GT has been specially crafted to perform like a WRX yet accommodate as no previous Legacy has done before. The new model is larger than it was previously in every dimension, allowing for greater front and rear roominess, especially when it comes to legs in back, with more length thanks to a longer 2,750 mm (108.2 inch) wheelbase and more knee-room due to front seatbacks that have been carved out to increase usable space. The trunk is much larger too, now at 415 litres (14.6 cu ft), or in real-life terms capable of getting four golf bags inside, making it a car that can get said bags and three of your full-size friends to tee-off on time thanks to breathtaking performance.

I’ve not been there before, but I am sure it is a fine factory.I just wish that the designs that they are asked to build were a bit more attractive, and in Legacy’s case, better equipped as well as being better looking… more like the previous Legacy that SIA built, one of which I have. Most of my product planning gripes come from decisions made at a more basic level, higher up the chain, and don’t really reflect on the build quality of the work done at SIA. I like my SIA built 2005 Legacy GT quite well.Paradise… maybe the Porsche factory at Stuttgart, or the McLaren factory at Woking… Ferrari headquarters in Maranello… maybe Aston Martin’s headquarters…
