Forester 2.5X models receive a new 2.5-liter flat four with new bore and stroke dimensions and a slightly longer stroke. Displacement increases from 2,457 cc t0 2,498 cc. Torque increases by 4 lb-ft. to 174 lb-ft. and now peaks at 4,100 rpm (previously 4,400 rpm). Most importantly, fuel economy is up all around to 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway for both manual and automatic transmissions. That’s a 1 mpg improvement for automatics both in the city and on the highway, while manuals see a 1 mpg improvement in city driving only.
Detail changesThe automaker has also added another trim level to the Forester lineup: 2.5X Touring. It adds to the previously range-topping (for naturally aspirated models) 2.5X Limited HID headlamps, a backup camera integrated into an upgraded audio system, automatic climate control, silver finished roof rails, electroluminescent gauges and turn signals integrated into the side mirrors.
